A Glimmer Of Hope

Geuss what! I can play the chorus of "Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2" on my guitar! I went to the guitar store and wasted my money on the sheet music for "The Wall", and immediately felt bad. Well, now look! Yeah I know, that's really not that amazing, but at least it's a step in the right direction. I'm sure I can sing for a band, so that's all good. I've also narrowed down a list of possible names to two choices. Vote on which you like most with the poll.

hey everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I know, I know, you've probably all been bored out of your minds because I haven't posted a tidbit of illustrious knowledge in a long time. Anyway, the reasons I haven't been able to post lately are plentiful.
I'm going into Algerbra 1 This year, and my teacher was kind enough to give us 80 pages of algerbra homework over the summer. I've gotten about 20 done so far. One of my friend's mom wouldn't let her start until August "So it's still fresh in her mind when school starts again." Isn't that crazy?
I've been cramming a summer's worth of vacation's into one month. Starting with boyscout camp, I've been gone every weekend this month except for this one, and I'm having friends over, so it doesn't count. 2 weeks ago it was just for fun camping, Last weekend it was fore the 4-H state shoot*, and labor day weekend it's the same as 2 weeks ago.
My mom has this crazy tradition where I'm not allowed to wear back to school clothes until I go back to school, so I've got this big pile of really rad clothes just sitting there looking unhappily up at me when i get dressed each day.
Well, I've got to run ( OK, ride my bike) over to my grandparent's shop to work for a little moolah, then go to the doctor's office for a check up, then go shooting with my grandpa for four hours. But I'm not stressed. Yet.

*I got a silver medal in muzzle loading and a bronze in skeet, so rock on!!

What's Happening?

Hey, how's it going, sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I'm not going to be able to write at all next week either because I'll be camping. So, I geuss you'll all just have to try and live without my wonderful insights upon life. Just don't cry, because that would make me feel bad. By the way, has anyone ever seen the movie It? I'm reading the book, and I'm curious as to whether the movie's worth seeing. Well, I've got to get going, so see ya later!

The Dark Knight

I went to the midnight showing of this movie, and it was totally worth it. I can't review it very well, because that would involve giving away the plot, so I'll just say this:

six out of five stars

Thats how good it was. DO NOT BRING SMALL CHILDREN!!!! This movie is full of very disturbing crap. Heath Ledger did the best performance I've ever seen, and if he doesn't get the oscar, I'm really interested in who did. The joker was a very deeply disturbed person, and Heath didn't fail to amaze. It is a great shame he died.

My First Movie Review

The movie I'm going to be reviewing is "I'm Not There", the new look at Bob Dylan's life story. First off, this movie is really messed up. If you like movies with a definite plot line, absolutely no deviance from reality, and easy to understand messages, this movie is not for you. I rented it for two days, and I'm pretty sure I'll have to buy it, because it's impossible to get the full message in 2 day's worth of viewings. I don't think I could get the full message if I watched it every day for a year. I can't really talk too much about the plot, because there is none, but the general idea is that his life is told through six people's life experiences, portraying a different aspect of Bob's life. It starts with him dying, which makes no sense, because he's still alive to this day. Each story is in a different time period, but they're all connected in one way or another, be it an actor playing one of the other characters in a movie, or a quick name dropping. Overall, I give this movie a...

five out of five

I must say, it's the kind of movie you'll either proclaim to be an instant classic, or a grand pile of crap. I feel the former, because I enjoy seeing a movie that makes you think in this world of instant gratification. Maybe you will hate it.

So it goes. ( I've been reading a lot of Vonnegut lately)

Guitar Hero Again

Geuss what! I just got Guitar Hero 3 yesterday! I played it for about 3 hours yesterday, and for nearly 7 hours today. I 've already beat it on medium, and I've gotta say, it's pretty awsome. I've got to go, so see ya later!

Happy 4th!

To all my american readers, I'd just like to wish you a happy 4th of July. Yeah, um, that's about it.

Why I feel I should have a blog

When I ask people if they have a blog, they usually respond no, because they don't feel as though they have profound enough thoughts to fill the pages of a blog. I know that I don't have profound thoughts, but I still have one. I think I rationalized that I deserved a blog by thinking of those books that are about a totally normal life, with only ordinary occurrences, that by all means should be boring, but aren't. Maybe that's how this blog is. If not, lets hope it's like Planet Tad from MAD Magazine. Oh, and sorry about not posting a CD review last week.

I want your opinion

I know, I know, it seems odd that the author of a web page all about himself would want his readers opinions, but I do. I was sitting at the computer, bored to tears, when I suddenly had a radical idea: how about changing the template of my blog? A few keystrokes later, I had what you see now. I personally think it's a pretty cool template, but of course I wouldn't have chose it otherwise. I'm always interested in whether or not people think I'm a loony, so I figured the new template would be a great way to test that. Is it good, like I think, or have you been reading the random thoughts of a mad man? let's find out. If you'll vote in the nifty little poll to the right, that would be just smashing.

Guitar Hero and pointless whining

Guitar Hero is awesome, isn't it? Unfortunately, I only own # 2, but I really want Rocks The 80's. If only I could learn to play guitar for real. I own 2 electric guitars, and I have unlimited access to an acoustic, but I still haven't figured out the most important thing - how to play. I want lessons, but I only make 20$ a week, which clearly is not enough. I ask people if they know how to play, and quite often they say yes. When I enquire further, however, it turns out they can just " make cool noises". When did that become the definition of knowing how to play? None of my friends play anything either, so even if I learn how to play, I still can't form a band because no one else will be able to do anything.

Combat Rock - the review

Hello, ladies and gents, it's time for your favourite blogger to write you another review! This week, we're going to talk about The Clash - Combat Rock.
First of, I must say I'm a big fan of the Clash, and I own 3 of their CD's. This one featured many of their most popular songs, such as Rock The Casbah and Should I Stay Or Should I Go?. They are definately my favourite songs on the album, and that's a prestigious position. The thing I don't like about the album is the fact that it is very expirimental. There are songs with very long and weird solos, which I'm not a fan of when it comes to them. With Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, I'm used to that sort of thing, but the clash are supposed to be fast, loud, and energetic. The expirimental songs aren't any of those things. The Album's songs are really in order from best to worst, something that is quite common with CD's. I'm Geussing it has something to do with the fact people listen more to the beggining of a CD than the end, so it would make sense to have the best stuff were it will be heard the most.
Overall, I give it...
4 out of five
Next week: Pink Floyd's The Wall.

The Results Are In!

The results of the most recent post are in! A whopping 66% of my readers like that rock 'n' roll music, and the other 33% liked pop. If you are on of the three people who voted, including me, Thanks! If not, you're a horrible, betraying reader. Kidding!

Boyd's Very First CD Review

Hello, lovely readers! I believe it's time for my very first CD review, which is a CD whose name I don't even know. I DO know it's by AFI (which stands for "A Fire Inside) and has the song Miss Murder on it. Before I even start, let me just say I have a slightly biased opinion of AFI and bands like it. I was raised to not like them. Deal with it.

The first thing I noticed was the volume. I listened to it while mowing the lawn, and I actually had to turn it down. That's usually the first sign of something being too loud. After we get past the extremely loud volume, there's the actual instruments. I'll start with the singing: it sucked. It sounded like some whiny rich kid expressing just how much it stinks to be a famous rock star with millions of fanatical followers. The percussion was, in theory, very good, but had two idiosyncrasies: it was overbearing and was totally the same in each song. Now, if the first issue wasn't a problem, it wouldn't matter about the second, because all it would be there for was to keep time. When you start to turn up the volume of the drums though, you need to have something different in each song. The guitar was, surprisingly, quite good, and if it wasn't overpowered by the drums, it would have contributed to the music quite a bit.

The overall impression I got of the band and it's music was this: they have totally been shaped by popular culture, and not the other way around. The way I judge whether a band is really successful is whether or not they have shaped how we see the world. According to this, AFI is totally unsuccessful. They have no reason to be depressed goths, but they are because they think it's cool. If they broke out of the mold, they could be successful by my definition. Will they? I doubt it.

Overall, I give this album a...

three out of five

The reason it got that high of a rating is because I saw potential in them.

Next week, I'll be reviewing The Clash: Combat Rock.

see you then!

More Whining

I can't say I'm that in love with today's music. I really like the 70's and 80's sound, all electric and surreal. Now it's mostly screaming in the microphone and random strumming. And thats just rock. I'm not even going into rap and (shudder) pop.

The reason I bring this up is because I told a friend I'd never heard HIM or AFI, so he lent me a CD of each. OK, before I even talk about the music, what's up with the names of these bands? Acronyms? They can't even think of a semi-decent name. I can't actually give a review of the CD's yet, because I haven't actually gotten the initiative to listen to them yet, but I can make fun of what I do know. The set list for HIM involved song titles such as "Rip Out The Wings Of A Butterfly", and "Play Dead". I'm sorry, but does that sound more than just a bit Emo.

Speaking of Emos, has anyone heard the song "Emo Kid"? It's hilarious!

Got to go, 'cause I've got exams to study for, instead of spending all my time whining on this blog.

I'm Bored

I don't mean to sound like I did in my very first post, but why is there nothing good on T.V.? I've been sitting around for hours, watching reruns of The icredible Hulk and MAD TV. Now, don't get me wrong, they're both great shows, but after the first hour or so, they can get mind-smashingly boring. Now I'm watching The Colbert Report, listening to news from just long enough ago that I've already heard it and don't really care.
The programs aren't all that's annoying, either. The TV I'm watching cuts off the edges of the picture by half an inch, and does this weird jittery thing whenever the picture gets slightly darker in shade than white. I would replace it, but the opening for the cabinet is a really funky size, and I can't find one that shape.
The TV isn't all that's defective, either. The computer I'm writing to you dear readers on is a windows 98, and won't let me do alot of stuff I need to, such as acess the toolbar, or use keystrokes. I only have dialup, so I'm quite worried about this whole article being eaten somewhere between the composition pane and the blog page. I've got to go, because the computer is threatening to disconnect, and I'd end up smashing the computer. That would suck, partially because it's not mine.

Thanks, everyone!

Finally! At last someone has visited my website! Granted, I asked them to, and no one's been here who doesn't know me (I think), but still! Thats pretty awsome! Yay!

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy

Looking for good summer reading? Maybe you should check this series out. Written by Douglas Adams, it's a really cool series about the intergalactic antics of Arthur Dent as he tries to find his way home. The entire series combined is only about 880 pages long, so it's not to horribly long. After you read them, you can check out the 2005 movie and the BBC TV mini series. Remember your towel!

Rock 'n' Roll!

My favorite band is definitely the boomtown rats. Unfortunately, they are almost completely unheard of, despite having a song at # 1 in the American charts. They are a Punk/Alternative band from the 80's.

Slowwave!

I found out about the coolest website on earth. Its called Slowwave. It's a comic website, and the general idea is this: People describe potentially funny dreams to the guy, and he draws them up into a 4-panel comic. They're mostly pointless, and are stupid, but they can sometimes be hilarious.

Dear readers, if your anything like me, you'll love this websight.
Peace Out

Dilbert

As you may have realized, i enjoy the dilbert strip quite a bit. Despite the fact i don"t work in an office, i find the humor in it to be quite universal. starting today, the dilbert widjit is in the sidebar, allowing you to veiw any strip going back to 2001. pretty cool, huh?
